The narrow gauge railroad has come to Arrowhead!

Don Beach has established an elaborate garden railroad for “F” gauge live steam trains at his home at Arrowhead. These miniature trains are pulled by finely detailed engines powered by butane or coal. Don and his fellow “Live-Steamers” model the narrow gauge railroads which ran in the southwest to many of the old mining communities or between towns such as Montrose and Gunnison. His track layout includes a small town, a round house where the engines are parked when not in use, a cattle pen and loading ramp, and even a stream that runs into a pond. Every summer for the past five years, Don’s train friends have gathered at the Beach cabin to enjoy a day of running their trains, discussing the finer details of the various models, and sharing train tales. This year, friends came from as far away as California and New Mexico to participate in the “Steam-Up” and to marvel at the beauty of our Arrowhead community.

The town of Lockstock awaits the arrival of the steam engine and its cars.

Engine 463 once ran between Montrose and Cimarron hauling cattle and sheep to market.

The roundhouse shelters 3 steam engines while the Galloping Goose takes its turn on the track.
